This morning my alarm sounded at 5.30. I needed time to meditate before getting ready and setting off for the Mind Calm Meditation workshop I was running in Colchester. It’s important – vital – to practise what I teach so I make time for a Calm Sitting even when I am starting early.
All my Colchester events are held at The Tree Room which is a lovely venue. It’s an oasis of calm in the middle of the town and has a wonderful energy. It’s very easy for me to create a safe space in The Tree Room, to enable participants to feel comfortable and secure as they relax and spend time in their own conscious awareness.
Today I was joined by eight very special people, with varied backgrounds and levels of experience in meditation, from a little knowledge to experienced meditators. This meant that we had lively and valuable discussions and a lot of laughter. I think that sometimes others in the building are surprised to hear sounds of excitement and humour coming from the Mind Calm workshops; yes, we do spend time in silence with our eyes closed, but we also have some very enjoyable and enlightening exchanges and funny moments.
For me, it is an amazing privilege to be able to spend time with people who have given up a whole day to learn Mind Calm. I find it moving and humbling that they trust me both to share the Mind Calm theory with them and also to hold a space for meditation, when we sit together in stillness and silence.
I eventually got home at 7pm, tired from the early start and full day but deeply relaxed from spending the day in awareness and practising meditation. Work isn’t over for me, however, as I am now on call for my ‘other’ job in the criminal justice system. Being so relaxed is a great help, however, because it means there is no stress in the waiting to see when or if I will be called out.
If you are reading this and you have been to any of my Mind Calm events, I would like to thank you again for your time, commitment and trust. And if you are interested in attending one in the future, do get in touch to find out more or sign up for the newsletter below.
