Grief and loss

Language in loss – Delivery

By February 10, 2019February 7th, 2021No Comments

I’ve written a few pieces about losing my mother. In this one I remember a time shortly before she died. There are some others which I may post in due course. I am also thinking of recording a reading and posting on Instagram. Let me know if you think it’s a good idea. Death, grief, loss, bereavement – these subjects are still somewhat taboo and I think we should bring them out into the light and then perhaps experiencing them would not be so lonely.

Delivery

In a time apart from the world,
I sit beside you as you travel.
You are working so hard.
Above your head is a photograph of your mother
At your wedding.
Long before I was born.
I hold your hand and watch my grandmother’s smiling face
And I think,
I am with her,
Delivering her out of the world,
Back to you.
As you delivered her into the world
With your mother-in-law by your side.
Hand in hand, life in life, through the generations
We women are guiding each other in and out of existence.
